  • I can't answer your question definitively, @zipppy , because I think that a loose slot is kind of an oxymoron, but I will say this: I do well at the Brass Ass and the Colorado Grande. I also like to play at Johnny Nolon's. My experience is that there is the 'old' Cripple Creek--that is all the older casinos on Bennett Avenue, and then the newer and larger casinos on the east and north end. The newer casinos have more of the modern games, you know, with all the bells and whistles, while the older casinos seem to have more of the traditional reel type of machines. In an age of instant gratification and entertain-me-first mentality, I think that folks are drawn to the newer machines with the brighter lights and animated features. But, I find that sticking to traditional reel-type quarter and dollar machines pay off in the end. They just aren't as fun, hah. Well, unless winning is fun to you. It is kind of like how the best gamblers pay video poker. It is a slog, but winners go to make money and amatuers go to have a good time. Also, the older casinos offer free hot dogs still, and for a guy like me, playing an old quarter machine and eating free hot dogs is a pretty good time.

  • Strange, @OneArm , I seem to have good luck at Colorado Grande, too, though Johnny Nolon's does purport to have the loosest slots in Cripple Creek. As far as my luck at Colorado Grande, I don't play enough to be a statistically representative sample, so your mileage may vary, zipppy. OneArm is right about the old reel machines, especially in Cripple Creek. Overall, the payout percentage is highest on quarter, $5 and dollar slots in Cripple Creek, in roughly that order, per the Colorado Division of Gaming's most recent report. Of course this can vary significantly from casino to casino, but overall, those are the machines to play, statistically speaking. Over time, there's a big difference between the 4-5% hold on those slots and the 7-8% hold on penny slots! Not related to your question about slots, but I find the 20-30% hold (the amount the casino retains) on blackjack and craps to be pretty crazy.

CRIPPLE CREEK — Casinos in Cripple Creek reopened Monday after being closed for months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

For now, visitors will only be able to play the slot machines while gaming tables are expected to be reviewed in the coming weeks.

Downtown was filled with cars and people standing outside the casinos which opened at 10 a.m. Staff members at some casinos shared that a few hours prior to opening people were waiting in line, wanting to be the first ones in to land a spot at a machine. Not all machines are available due to social distancing requirements.

People from near and far came to visit the small town. Staci Pruett from Loveland said, 'We've hit some casinos and done some shopping.'

The approval of the variance request means employees will have to wear a mask at all times. Customers will wear a mask upon entering a casino and they'll do a health screening.

The state health department detailed in the approval that 6 feet of distance must be achieved and establishments must limit 50% 'of the posted occupancy code limit ensuring a minimum 28 square feet per person not to exceed more than 175 people at any given time in a confined indoor space, and 250 people in any outdoor setting.'

Employees will also have to monitor daily for symptoms and those showing symptoms will have to be isolated.
